The Young Women in Public Affairs Award recognizes women for their active commitment to volunteerism, experience in local government, student government, or workplace leadership (paid or unpaid), volunteer leadership achievements, knowledge of Zonta International and its programs, support in Zonta International's mission of empowering women worldwide through service and advocacy.

Julia Hunt, Our 2023 Young Women in Public Affairs Award Winner

The Zonta Foothills Club of Boulder County is honored to introduce Julia Hunt, our 2023 Young Women in Public Affairs Award winner.

A senior at Fairview High School (Boulder, Colorado), Julia is a co-founder of the Boulder Women’s March and over the last few years she has organized five marches, the largest with over two thousand attendees.

As the leader of her high school’s Young Democrats and Youth in Government clubs, she coordinates voter registration drives and other political engagement events. She is a representative on her school district’s Title IX Student Advisory Council and has served as a policy intern for Colorado State Representative Judy Amabile.

Julia plans to study history or political science at Columbia University and after college she hopes to work in government and someday run for office.

The Young Women in Public Affairs Program recognizes young women, ages 16-19, for their leadership skills and commitment to public service and civic causes. It encourages them to continue their participation in public and political life. To qualify for this scholarship, an applicant must :

  • be 16-19 years old on 1 April

  • be studying at a secondary school, college or university in a Zonta district/region,

  • demonstrate evidence of the following, are eligible to apply. 

The Zonta Foothills Club winner will awarded $2,000 and can be considered at the district/international level, for an additional financial reward of $6,000. The district/international winner will be announced on July 1.
